Library Building Aide

The Library Building Aide position is a 9-month/year, on campus, part-time position that works weekday evenings and weekends during the fall and spring semesters. They are responsible for opening and/or closing the building, including locking and unlocking the front doors, turning on the lights and computers, and ensuring that the Library Services Desk is staffed. During their shift, they submit an electronic shift report documenting everything that happened during their shift and voicing any concerns that arose. If a security, safety, or building issue arises during their shift, they report any problems to Campus Safety and/or directly to their supervisor or any other appropriate party.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the library building to ensure security, safety, and orderly conduct of patrons; walk through each floor of the library every hour; report any incidents to appropriate authorities
  • Oversee the Library Services Desk for coverage and perform basic circulation tasks; ensure student staffing at the library services desk; serve in absence of the student workers
  • Supervise the opening and closing of the building during nights and weekends, during academic school year; ensure all users promptly leave the building at closing hours;  properly securing the building upon closing
  • Complete and submit electronic shift reports at the end of each shift; report any issues or concerns that arose during shift with team and supervisor (Library Services Specialist)

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED is required
  • Knowledge of basic computer and communication skills
  • Ability to traverse the library hourly to monitor the environment for safety of student workers and library patrons
  • The following evening and weekend shifts are assigned between 3 Building Aides:  Monday-Thursday 6pm-12am, Friday 5pm-8pm, Saturday 10am-3pm or 3pm-8pm, Sunday 12pm-6pm or 6pm-12am.

$16/hr (part time, approx. 17 hours a week)
