Piano Technician

Reporting to the Dean of Fine and Performing Arts, this full-time position is responsible for maintaining, improving and prolonging the useful life and performance of all keyboard instruments. Illinois Wesleyan is uniquely designated as an “All Steinway School”. Responsibilities:

  • Tune and maintain all concert venue pianos; collaborate with faculty, visiting artists, and students to determine and satisfy needs
  • Tune, repair and maintain all classroom pianos and faculty studio pianos in the School of Music
  • Tune, repair and maintain all practice room grand pianos and upright pianos in the College of Fine Arts
  • Rebuild piano mechanisms as needed; order correct replacement parts, properly fitting and align, rebush keys, touch and tone; regulate all keyboard instruments, including historic instruments
  • Determine the instruments that require massive rebuilding and coordinate that accordingly, within budget constraints; rotate pianos as needed to more critical areas to prolong and extend useful life

 

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Registered Piano Technician and Steinway Factory Training required
  • Five years related experience

Level 20: $25.06/hr (37.5 hrs/week, annual approx $46k)
