Grounds Team Leader

This position performs care and maintenance of campus grounds, athletic facilities, parking lots, sidewalks, and all other landscaping. Serve as a team lead, assist in coordinating work, and provide general instruction to the grounds team. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Groundskeeping duties; turf, bed, and irrigation system maintenance; serve as team lead, coordinate work to cover absence, assist in coordinating projects, and provide general instruction to grounds team
  • Athletic Field Maintenance and Event Support; turf management and maintenance (mowing, aeration, seeding, weed control through pesticide application); artificial turf care and maintenance;  layout and painting fields according to NCAA guidelines for all athletic events; removing trash, bleacher, and stadium cleaning
  • Equipment operation, maintenance, and repair; ability to operate mowers, trimmers, tractors, and forklifts; maintenance of small engine equipment; routine maintenance inspections to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition; mechanical maintenance of grounds vehicles including riding mowers, utility vehicles; equipment attachment removal and replacement
  • Arboriculture duties; pruning, planting, pesticide application, tree and limb removal
  • Snow Removal; shoveling, using snow moving equipment to clear walkways, and salt application

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • HS/GED required; Associates degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or related field preferred
  • 5 years experience; turf, bed, tree management and experience operating all necessary equipment
  • Employee must receive certification as a Grounds Technician within the first 2 years of employment
  • Awareness and adherence to OSHA safety protocols are of paramount importance
  • Valid driver's license
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required; position requires an on-call rotation
  • Exposure to all weather conditions, heavy lifting, and carrying
  • Physical demands: Routinely (>50%) lift and carry 15-50 pounds with frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting. Ability to climb ladders, often with equipment. Exposure to extreme temperatures, heat, and cold.

Level R: Starting hourly rate $22.72, based on experience (37.5/hrs week)
