Investments Manager

Illinois Wesleyan University invites applicants for the position of Investment Manager. This position  is responsible for the Endowment fund, including investment and farm accounting. Provides guidance and ensures compliance with University policies and accounting standards. Maintains general ledger accounts through analysis, preparing journal entries and reconciliation of accounts. Prepares financial statements, tax returns and external reporting documents for review. Ensures proper cash management for the University.  This is a full time, on-campus position.  Generous benefits include health, retirement, considerable time off and access to multiple tuition scholarship programs for employees and dependents.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees general ledger accounts for Endowment Fund, regarding investments and farms; Plant Fund fixed assets and depreciation; Annuity/CRUT Fund; preparation and/or approval of journal entries and account reconciliations; maintains endowment and annuity pool unitization; prepares monthly investment report; ensures accounting functions are in compliance with GAAP and university policies
  • Prepare work papers for financial statement audit and benefit plan audits; works closely with Controller and outside audit firm to develop timeline of deliverables and implement new accounting standards; responsible for preparing financial statements, documents for annual reporting and the financial section of the IPEDS report
  • Tax returns and tax reporting; draft form 990-university annual return; works closely with Commerce Bank regarding Form 5227 and 1065 associated with Charitable Remainder Unitrusts (CRUT) reporting to beneficiaries, and 1099-R
  • Assist with coordination and communicates with external constituents, including, outsourced Chief Investment Officer and IWU Farm Managers, audit firms, banking partners, financial advisors and rating agencies, as needed; completion of external reporting requests, as needed
  • Internal business partnerships and supervisory responsibilities; assist in advising/coordinating with other departments and grants on proper accounting; supervise the payroll function of the Business Office, including back-up for processing; provide analysis for financial reports and programs, as needed
  • Serves as the backup to initiates and approves wires, ACH payments, positive pay suspects, payroll and serves as back up for online banking; performs critical role of dual control in cash management; adherence to fraud detection; produce financial models like cash flow and spending policies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Accounting, preference for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar designation
  • Three to five years related experience; accounting, investments, endowment management
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, specifically non-profit fund accounting. Preference for experience supervising one or more function of a Business Office (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Cashier or General Ledger)
