After receiving a bachelor’s degree in music education from IWU, students can immediately enter into Longy’s online or in-person program for a master’s in music education, which can be completed in a one-year accelerated program or the usual two-year program.

What is the advantage of this program for earning a master's degree?

The partnership with Longy simplifies the graduate school application process for IWU students interested in furthering their education.

Earning a master’s degree quickly after graduating gives students more earning power in the teaching market, since teacher salaries are based on degrees obtained.

In pursuing a master's degree, students add to their knowledge and abilities to become even stronger music educators for the students they serve.

Who is eligible for this program?

Illinois Wesleyan music education students must complete the Teacher Education Program (TEP) in the spring semester of their sophomore year, after completion of two foundation courses. Acceptance into the TEP at IWU will double as pre-acceptance to the Longy program.

How do I apply?

The application process to Longy is free with no GRE requirements or auditions. For interested students, the same materials that are compiled for their TEP application portfolio will be sent to Longy for their review.

What is Longy's program like?

Longy is a private music school in Cambridge, Massachusetts, associated with Bard College, a top-ranked national liberal arts college.

The master's in music education program is accredited and asynchronous, which allows students to learn on their own schedule, within a certain timeframe.
