The scholarships and fellowships on this page provide some good opportunities for political science students.
The Dunn Fellowship Program
The Dunn Fellowship Program is an opportunity for graduates to obtain hands-on experience in Illinois state government for one year (August to July). This is a paid fellowship: $31,332 for the year, plus full state benefits.
Fulbright UK Summer Institutes
The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are three- or four-week programs for U.S. undergraduate students. Participants can explore the culture, heritage, and history of the UK while experiencing higher education at a UK university. For more information, see the Fulbright UK Summer Institutes web page .
Richard Eikenberg One Voice Washington D.C. Trip
The Bloomington-Normal Area Economic Development Council offers a college student the opportunity to participate in its One Voice Washington D.C. trip. The goal of the One Voice campaign is to make McLean County a stronger economic force and a better place to live.
In the spring, the task force travels to Washington D.C. to meet with a congressional delegation and show them the community stands united in support of the projects. The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship
The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship is a Washington D.C. program for graduates. The Scoville Fellow will work with a public-interest organization and will receive a stipend, health insurance, and travel costs. This fellowship is offered twice a year, in the fall and in the spring.
The ICPSR Summer Undergraduate Internship Program
The Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan sometimes offers a summer undergraduate internship program. For more information, please see the Summer Undergraduate Internship Program page at the ICPSR website.
The Illinois City/County Management Association (ILCMA)
ILCMA offers these scholarships:
- ILCMA Conference Student Scholarship for the summer and winter ILCMA conferences
- James M. Banovetz Illinois Local Government Fellowship , a scholarship for graduate students
NORC at the University of Chicago
NORC offers a summer internship program for individuals with an interest in the social sciences, survey research, data analysis, and research methods. For more information, see the NORC website.
Paul Simon Public Policy Institute

Pi Sigma Alpha Howard Penniman Scholarship for Graduate Study
Pi Sigma Alpha is the national political science honor society. They offer the Howard Penniman Scholarships for Graduate Study. These annual scholarships are awarded to up to five members entering graduate school in political science in the upcoming academic year. For more information, please visit the Pi Sigma Alpha website.
Rotary Scholarships
The Rotary Foundation and clubs invest in future leaders and philanthropists by funding scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study. The Weir Fellowship
