BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The seventh annual Unity Gala will serve as a place for joy and connection for all Illinois Wesleyan University students, faculty, and staff from 7-11:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Hansen Student Center.
Guests should RSVP here by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. Each attendee may bring one guest, whose name must be noted in the registration form.
The theme for this year’s event is “United Under the Stars” with a semi-formal dress code. The Unity Gala is organized by the IWU Student Senate, in partnership with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, The Alliance and Sodexo.
Student Senate Diversity and Inclusion Committee Commissioner Celina El Ghossaini ‘26 said the event is a special occasion for many in the Titan community, becoming an opportunity to “admire our differences and revel in our appreciation for ourselves and others.”
In a campus invitation from student organizers, the Unity Gala is described as an opportunity to create "space for joyous celebration around the multifaceted identities and experiences that this student body holds. Celebration is powerful. Our intent is not to forget an imperfect world, but to find joy despite it.
Live jazz music and cultural performances by students will take place from 7-9 p.m. followed by dancing with a DJ from 9-11:30 p.m. Food and drinks will be served throughout the event and alcoholic beverages will be available from 7-9:30 p.m. for those with a valid government-issued ID.
“I believe this celebration is extremely important to the spirit of diversity and inclusion on campus, and would love to see it carried on for years to come,” said El Ghossaini.
