BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Eric J. Bieber '81 was elected as the newest member of the Illinois Wesleyan University Board of Trustees during the spring board meeting May 17.
Bieber is an obstetrician/gynecologist and reproductive endocrinologist. He studied biology at Illinois Wesleyan and earned a doctorate of medicine from Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine. He also holds a master’s degree in microbiology from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in healthcare management from Harvard University.
Bieber served in several roles at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, and worked most recently as the president and chief executive officer of Rochester Regional Health. He retired in 2022 to pursue his lifelong passion for music, and he now contributes to the board of directors for the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. Bieber serves on the IWU School of Nursing and Health Sciences Leadership Council.
In addition to the new trustee, 10 current board members were re-appointed for another three-year term. Those members are Rod Adams '95, Michael A. Clark '76, Steven J. Dudash '99, Herbert A. Getz '77, Leah A. Merrifield '78, Laura C. Randolph '92, Corey Schieler '97, Marc F. Talluto '94, Steven J. Wannemacher '73 and Joshua D. Yount '95.
Board of Trustees officers that were re-elected for the 2024-25 academic year include: Timothy J. Szerlong ’74, Chair; John W. (Jack) Dickens '86, Vice Chair; W. Thomas Lawrence ’80, Vice Chair; Edward B. Rust, Jr. '72, Vice Chair; Robert K. Zimmermann ’71, Treasurer; and Herbert A. Getz ’77, Secretary.
Per board of trustee bylaws, Steve Ondra '80 and Jill York '85 left the board after serving three 3-year terms. Illinois Wesleyan’s longest serving trustee, George Vinyard '71, earned the status of trustee emeritus. The Vinyard Room in the Memorial Center was named in his honor to recognize his nearly 50 years of service to the University.
