IWU Community Invited to Attend the 5th Annual Unity Gala
March 2, 2023
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — For an evening of music, food and togetherness, the Titan community is invited to attend the 5th Annual Unity Gala on Saturday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in the Hansen Student Center.
Guests are encouraged to RSVP here.
This event is organized by Student Senate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion commissioner Chrishana Simon '25 and co-commissioner Nathalie Romero '25 along with Student Senate, the IWU Alliance, the Office of the Provost and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI).
“The Unity Gala is important since it offers a fun, eventful opportunity to interact with people you may have never seen before,” Romero said. “It is one of the few places where all of the IWU community comes together and enjoys their evening together.”
Simon and Romero have worked closely with Director of ODI Sharla Brown-Ajayi to plan the event and the celebration of IWU as a diverse institution.
“Behind the scenes, it's a very collaborative event,” Brown-Ajayi said. “Student Senate commissioners work with ODI staff and Alliance members in the planning. We also work closely with our partners in Sodexo and Physical Plant.”
Attendees can expect music from the IWU Jazz Band paired with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from 7-9 p.m.; and dancing music from all genres and decades performed by DJ Green Beats from 9 p.m. to midnight.
“I hope that the attendees can leave the Unity Gala with a [reinforced] sense of connection with the larger Titan community,” Simon said. “It's seldom that an IWU event attracts so many different kinds of Titans, so I'm excited for everybody to be together.”
