Titans Invited to Connect During Homecoming and Family Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Illinois Wesleyan University is preparing for Titan green to take over everything during the 2022 Homecoming and Family Weekend celebrations on Sept. 23-25.
Whether it’s rallying to cheer on the football team at the Titan Tailgate, reconnecting with classmates at numerous alumni reunions on and off campus or celebrating the 50th anniversary of Title IX, there is an event on the itinerary suited for everyone.

“In the past two years, we’ve witnessed the Titan community come together in new ways to share stories, expertise and friendship. However, we have long awaited the chance to welcome alumni, parents and friends back to campus for a true Illinois Wesleyan Homecoming,” said Kaylee Mathison, director of alumni engagement. “We look forward to sharing a meal, a drink and a story with all of you in person.”
Recipients of the 2022 Illinois Wesleyan University Alumni Awards will be honored with a ceremony from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 in Young Main Lounge at the Memorial Center. The Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to Roger Sheldon '64 and Carol V. Thompson Sheldon '65. Ianne Fields Stewart '15 will receive the Robert M. Montgomery Outstanding Young Alumni Award, and Luis Cabrales-Vasquez '15 will be recognized for receiving the award in 2021. The Loyalty Award will be presented to Marsha A. Guenzler-Stevens '78. Joan P. Alverzo '72 will be honored with the Annual School of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award during a ceremony and social event from 9-11 a.m. at Wilson Atrium in Center for National Sciences on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Titan pride will be evident during TGOE Fest from 8-9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 at Tucci Stadium, including activities, student recognition and fireworks at 8:45 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 24, Titan fans will kick off the football celebrations with tailgating events from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Shirk Center parking lot before the football team takes on Carroll University at 1 p.m. at Tucci Stadium. Half-time recognitions will include alumni award winners and athletic milestone celebrations.
For those seeking musical entertainment, an alumni recital featuring cousins Ben Killey '99 and Kate Tombaugh '07 will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Westbrook Auditorium in Presser Hall. Killey is an emergency room doctor, business owner and head accompanist for the Seattle Men’s Choir. Tombaugh is the founder and executive director of Poco a Poco Music Festival. Additionally, the School of Music Faculty Recital and Reception will cap off the weekend celebrations with a performance from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Westbrook Auditorium in Presser Hall.
