BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Office of Student Involvement recognized several Illinois Wesleyan University student leaders, organizations and advisors at the annual Do Well & Do Good Involvement Awards on April 4.

The Do Well & Do Good Involvement Awards was named for the popular quote from former IWU President Minor Myers jr., "Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good."

Named for the popular quote from former IWU President Minor Myers jr., “Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good,” this was the second annual Do Well & Do Good award event and the first in-person ceremony. Students sat with their organizations in Young Main Lounge and enjoyed refreshments as they waited for award categories to be announced.

Assistant Director of Student Involvement Julie Hemp said, “A highlight was seeing the reactions from all of our winners after their names were announced. It feels great for them, I'm sure, but seeing it from a staff perspective was very heart-warming.”

Jasmyn Taylor '22, an active leader with the Black Student Union, Women of Color and Pride Alliance student organizations, was awarded the Minor Myers jr. Change Agent of the Year Award.

“I don’t do things for them to be awarded, so getting this award feels like the things I’ve done have made a point. It’s been kind of a nice cherry on top of all the things I’ve done,” Taylor said.

Carey and Hemp presented 10 awards celebrating accomplishments of students, student organizations and employee advisors:

  • Collaborative Program of the Year: The Society of Physics Students and Pi Mu Epsilon Math and Physics Competition
  • Social Justice Program of the Year: Pride Alliance Gender Affirming Clothing Drive
  • Fraternity and Sorority Life Advisor of the Year: Kasey Evans '12 (Associate Dean of Admissions)
  • Registered Student Organization Advisor of the Year: Jim Simeone (Professor of Political Science)
  • Emerging Leader of the Year: Jacob Bickett '25
  • Fraternity and Sorority Leaders of the Year: Anna McBride '24

  • Minor Myers jr. Change Agent of the Year: Jasmyn Taylor '22

Nominees were recognized for their “commitment to make a difference when they could have focused elsewhere and for embracing opportunities where obstacles existed,” Dean of Students Karla Carney-Hall said in her closing address.
