BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Council for IWU Women awarded four scholarships to women who demonstrate leadership and passion at Illinois Wesleyan University during a virtual summit on Feb. 18.
These students exemplify the Council’s values of personal and professional passion, communication skills, empowerment and leadership.
This year’s winners are Farah Bassyouni '25, an English major with a journalism minor; Olivia Bachar '24, a nursing major; Anjali Patel '23, a biology major; and Taima Saei '22, a political science major. Each received a $1,000 scholarship.
According to Amy Crumbaugh, engagement coordinator in the Office of Alumni Engagement and an organizer of this year’s Women’s Summit, the event was “ lively and involved, and a lot was accomplished in terms of brainstorming and planning for the future.”
Members of the Council for IWU Women include Illinois Wesleyan alumnae who seek to provide guidance and mentorship while supporting the intellectual and personal growth of women in the University community.
“It's clear that these women have created a tight bond with one another and were happy to have time to connect ,” said Crumbaugh.
Since 2008, the Council for IWU Women has awarded scholarships to a student in each academic year based on their contributions to the campus community. Not only are recipients engaged in civic activities, volunteer services and leadership positions, but they also find immense value in these experiences, a quality which allows them to effect change in their campus community.
