30 Titans Awarded State Farm Scholarships
May 6, 2022
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — State Farm is continuing its support and investment in Illinois Wesleyan University students in the form of financial scholarships.
This year, 30 Titans received scholarships at $10,000 each from State Farm Companies Foundation. Illinois Wesleyan has named 710 State Farm scholars since 2013. This program is one of the many ways State Farm lends its support to the educational and professional development of Illinois Wesleyan students as it strives to create access to quality education through scholarships for those who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
Students wrote letters of gratitude to benefactors of the program.
As a first-generation student, biology major Damaris Rodriguez '24 said the scholarship is a gift for her family. Rodriguez plans to attend medical school after IWU to become a family physician.
“With such high aspirations, I want to thank you for helping my dreams come true,” she wrote. “I know I will do great things and it would not be possible without you.”
Biology and neuroscience major Asyah Hussein '24 said the scholarship will help prepare her for the journey to medical school and beyond.
“I have been taught not only academic lessons here (at IWU), but also life lessons that I could not get anywhere else. Thanks to your help, I have been exposed to an amazing life journey that I hope to continue and made new goals that I hope to achieve,” said Hussein.
“It just takes one generous soul to change the world for so many.”
The scholarship support will have a ripple effect of generosity, as mentioned in a letter from biochemistry major Jonathan Rios '24.
“I will continue to work hard to accomplish my goals and hopefully help those in need in the near future,” said Rios. “Giving back has always been a goal of mine that will become possible with your donation and support.”
