Volunteer Engagement Officer

The Volunteer Engagement Officer is responsible for coordinating all volunteer groups in the Office of Alumni Engagement, including recruitment, orientation, training, scheduling and ongoing support, while supporting volunteer communications, engagement, and recognition programming. This person will manage and grow volunteer committees, manage volunteer expectations and tasks, and be an external representative of Illinois Wesleyan University.  This is a full-time, 12 month, on-campus position.  Generous benefits include health, retirement, considerable time off, and access to multiple tuition programs for employees and dependents.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, execute, and grow a strategic volunteer program for alumni, parents, students and friends of the University; manage all aspects of the volunteer programs, including recruitment, communication, training, stewardship for five affinity groups (Pride Alumni Community, Council for Women, International Alumni Network, Young Alumni Council and Alumni of Color Collective), Parent and Family Council, and Regional volunteer groups; establish goals and implement strategies for recruitment and retention of volunteers; organize on-campus volunteer opportunities; coordinate events, in collaboration with Assist. Dir. of Alumni Engagement.
  • Maintain and leverage our database, ensuring data is accurate and robust; maintain records, statistics and analyses of volunteer program performance; develop plans to maintain ongoing relationships with volunteers; meet volunteer program goals
  • Manage a portfolio of lead volunteer prospects; build strong relationship with volunteers to understand their interests; preferences, and giving capabilities; conduct visits with volunteers and prospective volunteers
  • Participate in departmental events and activities to support overall Advancement and Alumni Engagement goals; research best practices for volunteer management and implement; actively participate in department and alumni relations activities as requested or required (i.e. Homecoming, Family Weekend and Commencement) 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s required; Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field of study 
  • Three years of relevant experience; volunteer coordination
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours for necessary volunteer coordination

$22.72/hr  (37.5 hrs/week, approx $44k)
