Head Football Coach
Illinois Wesleyan University, a NCAA Division III institution and member of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, invites applications for the position of full-time Head Football Coach and Faculty member in the Physical Education, Sport & Wellness (PESW) Department. The head coach will provide oversight of all areas of the football program, including but not limited to; fundraising, alumni and community relations. The program has had two head coaches in the past seventy-one years and we are looking for a dynamic, energetic, and personable coach who will not only build upon the great traditions we have, but bring new and innovative ideas to revive the program back to national prominence. A commitment to excellence in academics, athletics and service to others are essential to this position.
The Head Football Coach is responsible for directing, supervising and evaluating all aspects of the football program; recruiting, retaining and graduating student-athletes; hiring, supervising and evaluating assistant coaches; monitoring student-athlete academic progress; organizing staff and coordinating practices; assisting with public and media relations efforts; coordinating team/staff community service; and performing other duties as assigned by the director of athletics. The successful candidate will adhere to all rules of the CCIW, NCAA, & IWU and will fulfill the requirements and expectations of Illinois Wesleyan University.
Responsibilities:
- Player/Individual & Team Development: Provide opportunities for skill development of student-athletes. Develop, communicate, research and implement game strategies for competitions. Design, periodize, and implement daily proactive and training schedules for student-athletes. Order, inventory and maintain equipment for the team.
- Recruiting for University and Program: Identify PSA’s via outreach to High School coaches, recruiting sites and research. Create and develop marketing messaging and material for the program. Coordinate recruit visits, travel to high schools and summer camp competitions throughout the country. Execute recruiting plan via social media, phone calls, emails, mailings and in-person/on-campus visits to meet goals.
- Retention of Student-Athletes in program: Meet regularly with student-athletes about academics, life and goals. Mentor and assist students in finding resources for career development and planning. Create and foster positive experiences for all students in the program.
- Professor in PESW: Lead and promote a healthy lifestyle for general students taking activity courses. Instruct courses needed for the major and minor sequences in PESW.
- Program Relations and Fundraising; Regularly communicate with alumni, parents and friends of the program. Coordinate events to reconnect, develop and enhance connections with families and alumni of the program.
Requirements:
- Minimum of ten years of coaching experience. Previous coaching and/or football experience at the collegiate level is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s preferred.
- Evening, weekend and overnight hours required.
- Valid driver’s license
