Instructional Staff Position Announcement: Educational Studies 

Illinois Wesleyan University is seeking to fill an Instructional Staff position in Educational Studies, to begin August 2023. The staff responsibilities in this appointment involve work as the Director of Field Placement – the chosen candidate will secure and coordinate field placements for all students enrolled in the program and serve as liaison between IWU and local schools and  organizations. The instructor responsibilities are focused on teaching four courses a year that are aligned with the Illinois standards for elementary and secondary licensure and university general education requirements. The ideal candidate will be conversant about and committed to culturally responsive teaching and bring expertise in delivering courses in K-12 school curriculum and pedagogy, student teaching seminar, and student teaching supervision. Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in a relevant specialization 
  • Familiarity with the process of field placement
  • Experience teaching undergraduate students
  • Public school related work or teaching experience
  • Demonstrated track record of exemplary teaching at the undergraduate level or in a K-12 setting

  • Letter of interest describing your experiences with teaching for social justice in addition to your experience with teacher education field placements and forging relationships with public schools and educational organizations. Also discuss how teaching and/or service has provided preparation for contributing to our commitment to address issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and/or other issues of historical marginalization (or diversity, equity and inclusion)
  • A teaching philosophy statement explaining your teaching experience, including specific examples of teaching methods and approaches to working with diverse populations
  • A curriculum vita
  • Summary of course evaluations and sample syllabi, if available
  • A transcript of one’s graduate training
  • Two letters of recommendation
