Justice Scholars Program
Justice Scholars Program is a 4-year personal and professional development program
rooted in Illinois Wesleyan University's mission and commitment to diversity, social
justice and environmental sustainability. The program will allow students to gain
practical skills and experiences to apply to their chosen field of study.
The Justice Scholars Program is for students of any major who are passionate about
making a difference in their communities and enroll in the Advocacy minor. The Advocacy
minor provides the academic framework for students to hone their advocacy skills and
methods. For example:
- Business majors who want to make positive change in underserved communities would
benefit from J-Scholars.
- Pre-med majors who are passionate about eliminating health inequities are a perfect
match for J-Scholars.
- Environmental Studies majors who want to improve environmental sustainability policies
would enjoy J-Scholars. The possibilities are endless!
J-Scholars will have the opportunity to:
- Be assigned a STEP Peer Mentor to provide support and resources to adjust academically and socially to IWU.
- Minor in Advocacy to develop your skills to make a difference.
- Take the same Gateway course in the Fall.
- Receive mentorship from J-Scholars faculty and staff your Freshman-Senior year at
IWU.
- Participate in educational and social activities in the Bloomington/Normal community.
- There is no additional fee to enroll in the Justice Scholar program.
The program can accommodate up to 16 students.
