Asia Rogers '25 Explores Emotions of Black Women Through Literature

English-writing major Asia Rogers '25 dedicated her research as a 2024 Illinois Wesleyan Eckley Scholar to investigating, humanizing, affirming and expanding the spectrum of emotional phenomena available to Black women in literature and real life.

Meyer Named Vice President for Advancement

Jesse Meyer, recently the Senior Director of Major Gifts and College Campaign Director at the University of Chicago, has been named Illinois Wesleyan's Vice President for Advancement, effective Oct. 14.

Victoria Ballesteros-Gonzalez '25 was selected as Illinois Wesleyan’s 2024 Student Laureate by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois.

Illinois Wesleyan Announces Addition of Women’s Flag Football

Illinois Wesleyan University announced the addition of women's flag football as the school's 27th sport, with the team scheduled to begin competition in the spring of 2026.

  • Brenda Knoll '89, Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, delivered two invited talks to the 3rd Turkish Association Neonatal Nurses Congress on October 5 in Istanbul. Her first talk was on the Nurse's Role in Providing PIOMI (Premature Infant Oral Motor Intervention). In the second talk, Knoll represented the USA on an international panel titled Neonatal Nursing in the World and presented the culture and practices of neonatal nursing in the USA.
  • "The Right to Counsel: Criminal Prosecution in 19th Century London," co-authored by Bryan McCannon '98, Director of the School of Business and Economics and Robert S. Eckley Endowed Professor of Economics, has been accepted for publication in Economica. The right to have a defense attorney in the U.K. was introduced in 1836; this paper explores the resulting effect on criminal trials. The authors document a counterintuitive result that conviction rates increased, which is consistent with British juries correcting for unfair trial procedures prior to the act.
