Titans Hiring Titans: Kelly Scott Madison Alumni Employ Three 2024 Grads

Faced with nearly 300 applications for positions at Kelly Scott Madison this summer, president of the marketing agency Chad Maxwell '02 made an effort to ensure an impartial hiring process by redacting certain details. Nevertheless, half of the openings were filled by 2024 graduates from his alma mater, Illinois Wesleyan University.

• Rachel Short '09, an assistant professor in South Dakota University's College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, received the National Science Foundation's most prestigious grant for early career faculty — the New Faculty Enhancement program.
• University Archivist & Special Collections Librarian Liz Bloodworth and Isaac Funk Endowed Professor of English Joanne Diaz co-authored a short essay for the Keats-Shelley Journal+ titled “A Salad of Many Herbs”: The Use of Commonplace Books with Undergraduates.
• Diana Jaher, an adjunct instructor in the IWU English department, humanities program, and School of Theatre Arts, published an article with Taylor & Francis titled, "Down the Left Hand Path to Perdition": Equity, the Actors Forum, and Anti-Communism.
• The Premature Infant Oral Motor Intervention (PIOMI) work by Associate Professor of Nursing Brenda Knoll '89 was featured in the July 2024 edition of The Informed SLP in the category of Prematurity and Medically Fragile Infants: Birth to Age 5. 
• Associate professors of nursing Noël Kerr and Amanda Hopkins and Simulation Coordinator Amanda Kemp '03 have received news that their manuscript, "Care of the Transgender Surgical Client: A Video Simulation for BSN Students," has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Nursing Education.

Yoga will return on Monday, Sept. 9, with Kim Hayes from Blooming Life Yoga Studio. We will continue with Mondays and Thursdays from 12:15-12:50 p.m. in the Niepagen South Classroom in the Shirk Center.

In the meantime, Kim has offered our employees an unlimited monthly pass to anyone who would like to attend for 1/2 off the regular price. Norma Jean Criley, retired IWU biology professor, passed away Aug. 6, 2024. Her late husband Bruce Criley was the chair of the IWU biology department and their son Mark Criley was a philosophy professor at IWU. The Criley Endowment Fund was created to support student research in biology to honor Norma and Bruce. An obituary is available here.
