Entrepreneur of the Year Event to Honor Will Jenkins '12, the Egbers Family

Business founder Will Jenkins '12 and the family of Gary Egbers '72, who founded the Central Illinois business Commercial Packaging, will be honored at the 2023 Bloomington-Normal Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Recognition Dinner presented by Savant Wealth Management and Illinois Wesleyan University.

New Grant to Increase Global Engagement on Campus

A new grant from the U.S. Department of Education will allow Illinois Wesleyan students to experience more study abroad opportunities, while enhancing existing programs related to international and global studies, world languages and preprofessional programs.

IWU Celebrates a Decade of Business, Economics, Finance Education at State Farm Hall

Ten years ago, the skyline of Illinois Wesleyan University was transformed when State Farm Hall was constructed on campus, where it serves as home to the IWU School of Business and Economics. Members of the Illinois Wesleyan community were recently joined by representatives of State Farm® for a celebration marking the milestone anniversary.

Titan Athletics

The Illinois Wesleyan men's and women's basketball teams joined Illinois State University teams for exhibition games on Sunday, Oct. 29, at CEFCU Arena. While the Redbirds came out on top of the Titans for both games, the friendly crosstown rivalry resulted in a lively crowd, reuniting the men's teams after more than 50 years and marking the first game between the women's teams.

Professor of Theatre Arts Curtis Trout explained the scene design behind the School of Theatre Arts recent musical production of Carrie. Nancy Steele Brokaw '71 also reviewed the production as a "well-crafted Halloween tale."

Will Dusek '23 plays Frankie Valli in the Chanhassen Dinner Theater production of "Jersey Boys: The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons" in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Director of The Petrick Idea Center John Quarton said the Bloomington-Normal area could be seen as an entrepreneurial hub, especially with the future addition of The Petrick Idea Center on IWU's campus.

Assistant Professor of Theatre Michelle Cowin Gibbs was recently a guest on the Cohort Sistas podcast, a program that celebrates the experience and expertise of Black women and non-binary doctoral degree holders.

 

Prianka Sharma '07 received the Environment, Energy, and Resources Section Outstanding Committee Award from the American Bar Association for work on the 2022-23 Endangered Species Committee.

 

Lincoln Biederbeck '81 was named vice president of business development for USSI Global.

Announcements

Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Michelle Cowin Gibbs will share a presentation at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, in the Welcome Center Auditorium titled, "Care Webs: A Theatrical Reinvention of Space and Place." The audience will be encouraged to consider the ways that theatre directors can shift processes that support collaborative artistic and audience-safe spaces as a method of teaching and learning.

With Deepest Sympathy

Professor Emeritus of History Paul Bushnell passed away on Sunday, Oct. 15, in Bloomington. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Evelyn Chapel, with a reception following at the Joslin Atrium, Memorial Center. His obituary may be viewed here.
