Celebrations Planned for IWU Homecoming and Family Weekend

The Illinois Wesleyan University community can connect with fellow Titans and their families at a variety of events scheduled during the 2023 Homecoming and Family Weekend on Oct. 6-8. 

Alumni Award Winners to be Honored During Homecoming

Illinois Wesleyan University alumni Dr. Ann Stroink '76, Steve '73 and Deb '74 Wannemacher, and Colleen O’Connor '14 will be honored with the 2023 Alumni Awards during homecoming celebrations at a 6 p.m. ceremony on Friday, Oct. 6 in Young Main Lounge at the Memorial Center.

Riehle '97 Honored with Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award

Matt Riehle '97 is the 2023 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for Excellence in Nursing from Illinois Wesleyan University’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Escape Room Activity Pushes Boundaries of Nursing Education at IWU

Faculty and students with Illinois Wesleyan University’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences have found a way to apply the entertaining and collaborative components of escape rooms to mental health education for nursing students.

During this year's Evergreen Cemetery Walk in Bloomington, Darraugh Maxine '23 is portraying Annie Ethel Jones, a Black woman who moved to Bloomington in 1922, later becoming a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital and the McLean County Poor Farm. Wellness Corner

If you haven't tried yoga yet, October is a great month to do it. Kim Hayes from Blooming Life Yoga is already making an impact on many of our IWU employees' yoga journey. Classes take place Monday and Thursday from 12:15 to 12:50 p.m. in the Shirk Center's Niepagen South Classroom.

Assistant Professor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry Lindsay Sicks '06 will be inducted into Orland Park's Consolidated High School District 230 Hall of Fame.

 

Nurse Practitioner with Chicago's Oak Street Health Kayla Worley '13 received the College of Nursing Alumni Award from the University of Saint Francis, where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner degree.

 

Associate Professor of Nursing Dr. Brenda Knoll '89 has published a study on a combination therapy partnered with her Premature Infant Oral Motor Intervention therapy (PIOMI). Her team of researchers from two hospitals in Tehran, Iran, have found that the addition of classical music to the end of the oral motor therapy further improves preterm infants ability to learn feeding skills, leading to significantly earlier discharge. Strategies for earlier discharge are impactful to the high economic burden of neonatal care in Iran.
