Students Welcomed to Campus During Turning Titan

Bringing a fresh wave of perspective and talent, about 500 first-year and transfer students were welcomed to Illinois Wesleyan University through the annual tradition known as Turning Titan.

Titans Explore Japanese and Filipino Culture through Freeman Asia Program

A visit to a historic mountaintop shrine in Japan and a rooftop dinner in Manila with travelers from all over the globe are just a few of the rich cultural experiences gained by Illinois Wesleyan students who participated in the Freeman Asia Internship Program this summer.

Titan Athletics

Illinois Wesleyan University men's cross country and track and field alumnus, JD Barrett '23 has been named a nominee for the 2023 NCAA Division III LGBTQ Student-Athlete of the Year award. This award honors the academic achievements, athletic excellence, and service/leadership of LGBTQ student-athletes in Division III. Nominees are chosen for their efforts and dedication to promoting and advocating for an LGBTQ-inclusive athletics department, campus and community within a DIII institution.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Logan Campbell will serve as director for the Bloomington-Normal Youth Symphony, and he plans to move the youth rehearsals to Presser Hall — which could boost both the youth program and IWU's School of Music.

Wellness Corner

One week until yoga! We hope to fill the classroom and give Kim Hayes a big welcome to IWU. Kim is the owner of Blooming Life Yoga Studio in Bloomington. 

 

Beginning Monday, Sept. 11, classes will take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 12:15-12:50 p.m. in the Shirk Center's Niepagen South Classroom. 

 

MINDSET (noun): The driving force in the quest for success and achievement. A mindset that combines discipline, strength, confidence and ambition is a powerful mindset. This can achieve anything it sets its sights on. A powerful mind can achieve anything.

Chair and Associate Professor of Finance Robert Irons was recently elected as vice president of the Chess Journalists of America. The CJA supports journalism regarding the game of chess, and judges and distributes prizes annually for exceptional work in a number of mediums.

 

Cesraea L. Rumpf '01, associate director of Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago, is the author of a new book titled "Recovering Identity: Criminalized Women's Fight for Dignity and Freedom."

 

Bryan C. McCannon '98, director of IWU's School of Business and Economics, recently had two research articles accepted for publication, including "AACSB Accreditation and Student Demand" which will be published in the Southern Economic Journal and "Alaska's Plea Bargaining Ban" which will be published in Contemporary Economic Policy.
