Several events will be open to the public hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day — No classes, University offices open

All day — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration: Realizing Our Power of Place

Last day to add or drop a full semester or first 7-week class

11 a.m., Hansen Student Center — Annual MLK Teach-In: "Filling Places and Spaces with Our Voices" — Scholar, activist, academic advocate and former Bloomington/Normal resident Menah Pratt-Clarke, Ph.D., will be the keynote speaker for the annual Martin Luther King Teach-In event.

7 p.m., Westbrook Auditorium, Presser Hall — Founders' Day Convocation — Richard Koening '89 will give the keynote address entitled "The Place of Affordable Housing in an Age of Affluence."

7 p.m., Shirk Center — Men's Basketball vs North Park — Streaming live at www.iwusports.com/watch/.

6 p.m., Fort Natatorium — Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving vs Milikin and Illinois College

11:15 a.m., Indoor Track, Shirk Center — Men's & Women's Track and Field – I-55 Tri

1 p.m., Fort Natatorium — Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving vs Carthage and Illinois Tech

6 p.m., Hansen Student Center — Student Senate General Assembly Meeting

• Yoga will only take place on Thursday this week from 12:15 - 12:55 p.m. in the Niepagen South Classroom in the Shirk Center.
• Personal Fitness will be on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning Jan. 31.

Charlene Aaron '94 was named president for Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing in Peoria and Saint Anthony College of Nursing in Rockford beginning July 5. 

Effective Tuesday, Jan. 17, B. Charles and Joyce Eichhorn Ames Professor of Physics Gabriel Spalding will begin his term as vice president for the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT).

Glenn J. Swichtenberg, retired dean of student affairs at Illinois Wesleyan University, passed away on Jan. 9, 2023. He worked at IWU from 1975 to 1996. His obituary may be viewed here.
