Emily's area of research specialization is the history of early modern philosophy (1550-1800 C.E.), especially the work of Scottish Enlightenment philosopher David Hume. Within Hume studies, she has published on Hume's philosophy of religion, metaphysics, and epistemology. Her current research focuses on Hume's virtue theory in ethics, epistemology, and aesthetics.
